- Miley Cyrus Talks Liam Helmsworth, Taking Time Off From Music

In the forthcoming issue of Teen Vogue, teen queen Miley Cyrus sits down with her "Last Song" co-star and real-life boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth, to talk about the pair's instant chemistry with one another, as well as her career future now that she's bidding the world of Hannah Montana a fond farewell for more adult pastures in flicks like "The Last Song" and her cameo in the "Sex and the City" film sequel.
"I think we're both deeper than normal people — what they think and how they feel," Cyrus says about Hemsworth in the April issue, hitting newsstands March 16. "He's very grateful for what he has, but he doesn't let it go to his head. I'm like that too."
And while his down-to-Earth nature may have stuck with Cyrus, it was his height that initially caught her eye. "He's really tall. I thought, either I'm going to have to be in heels or standing on something for this entire movie!" she said. "He definitely showed chivalry: I remember him opening the door for the director, and I was like, 'Wow.' "
Hemsworth jokingly chimed in, "I have very good parents. It was funny — working with Miley was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. From the first time we read, it was like I had known her before."
Cyrus is can easily be defined as a "quadruple threat," but it's Hemsworth's focus on just acting that she found most refreshing while shooting the flick. "It's refreshing to work with an actor who isn't also a singer and dancer and musician and artist and this and that," she explained. "I'm sick of quadruple threats who do everything when they should stick to one thing."
Cyrus herself has been hard at work on her next album, but she admitted that music isn't inspiring her the way it should be. "The more I make music that doesn't truly inspire me, the more I feel like I'm blending in with everyone else," she said. "So after this next album, I'm taking some time off."
So, what's next for Cyrus then aside from "The Last Song" due out on March 31. Easy, lots: "I'm working on lots of different films: drama, action, comedy," she says of her post-Hannah Montana life. "I like challenges, so I'm doing a little bit of everything."
And that includes a cameo in the hotly anticipated "Sex and the City" flick out in May. "I know everyone says Carrie, but I love Kim Cattrall, so I'll say Samantha," she said. "I want to be her because she's the hottest, she's funny, and she has attitude."
The new issue of Teen Vogue is on stands March 16.

Rocker Bret Michaels is no stranger to the company of lovely ladies, thanks to his career as singer of Poison, not to mention his "Rock of Love." But it was another recent collaboration with 17-year-old "Hannah Montana" star Miley Cyrus on the racy song "Nothin' to Lose" that really raised eyebrows. When MTV News caught up with Cyrus on the Academy Awards red carpet, she explained the pair's unlikely duet.
"He's a friend of my family," Cyrus said. "I was in the studio already, so I did a few harmonies for him."
Cyrus is also working on an album of her own, which she said will be out later this summer. For now, the starlet is promoting her upcoming Nicholas Sparks-penned film "The Last Song," which opens March 31 and co-stars her boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth.
"I'm super excited. I can't wait for everyone to see it," she said.
With roles in "The Last Song," "Sex and the City 2" and "Wings," a Disney adaption of the young-adult fairy novel by Aprilynne Pike, Cyrus said she is focusing on spreading her acting wings.
"I hope to always give myself a challenge," Cyrus said of her burgeoning career. "I never want to get myself into a rut."
Clad in a champagne-colored Jenny Packham bustier gown, Cyrus said she still finds herself star-struck on the red carpet, especially in the company of "SATC2" co-star Sarah Jessica Parker. "[She's] my fashion icon," Cyrus gushed, adding that sharing a red-carpet scene with Parker in the sequel was a "dream."

Kristen Stewart made her Oscars red-carpet debut Sunday night (March 7) in Los Angeles, and the "Twilight" star proved that she was red-carpet-ready in her tailored, strapless black gown. She definitely made our best-dressed list, alongside Miley Cyrus, Cameron Diaz and Taylor Lautner.
Cyrus looked age-appropriate, chic and fun in her sparkly, lingerie-inspired Jenny Packham gown. Her dress' champagne tone was the trend of the night, with Diaz walking the carpet in a nude and sparkly Oscar de la Renta.
Meryl Streep looked stunning in a low-cut, long-sleeved white gown made by "Project Runway" designer Chris March. Like Stewart, Lautner made his Oscars debut and managed to show the world that he understands what it means to be a red-carpet stud in his tux. Jennifer Lopez sparkled in her lavender-toned Armani gown, complete with tufted detail at her hip.
While Kate Winslet looked pretty in her silver, strapless Yves Saint Laurent gown, she wasn't exactly dazzling. Sandra Bullock looked a bit like an ice skater in her champagne, tight-fitting gown, and while the look toed the line between good and bad, she looked happy and confident.
Diane Kruger missed with her tiered, cream-colored halter gown with black detailing. Also, Zoe Saldana looked overwhelmed in her lavender gown with ruffles and sparkles. Vera Farmiga's fuchsia Marchesa gown didn't fit her properly and was too much dress, similar to Penélope Cruz's maroon dress.
Sarah Jessica Parker's butter-colored Chanel couture gown might have been the night's worst, thanks to its strange neckline of silver flowers. Parker is known for her fashion risks, but this one was too much.

- Oscars Red Carpet Standouts Include Miley Cyrus, Anna Kendrick
Most of the actresses favored nude tones and blue and purple this year. By Jocelyn Vena

The Academy Awards red carpet was ruled by nude tones, with everyone from Miley Cyrus to "Up in the Air" star Anna Kendrick dressing in the muted color. However, other starlets opted for blues and purples with some even choosing tie-dye-like patterns.
Best Supporting Actress nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal arrived in Dries Van Noten and while the print resembled tie-dye from a distance, it was actually a take on Vincent van Gogh's "Starry Night." Rachel McAdams also arrived in a Grecian gown with a floral tie-dye print and "Avatar" star Zoe Saldana's busy lavender gown resembled tie-dye toward the hemline.
Speaking of lavender, the color definitely dominated the carpet, with seemingly every other dress in a shade of the hue. Queen Latifah and Charlize Theron both wore the color and Jennifer Lopez's fun, flirty Armani Privé gown was on the lighter shade if the spectrum.
Along with Cyrus and Kendrick, Cameron Diaz embraced the nude trend with her super sparkly Oscar De La Renta gown.
"Twilight" stars Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner have definitely grown up — Stewart looked glamorous in her tailored, strapless black ruched gown and Lautner impressed in his ultra-glam tuxedo.
As for the rest of the guys, everyone from Efron to Chris Pine to Sam Worthington proved that the males of young Hollywood love fashion and have studied up on old-school Hollywood glam.

- What Should Miley Cyrus, Kristen Stewart Wear to the Oscars?
Designers/stylists also give us their fashion advice for Academy Award nominees Anna Kendrick and Gabourey Sidibe. By Jocelyn Vena

On Sunday, Hollywood's new class will be hitting the red carpet for the Academy Awards. And while some of the faces aren't new to the Oscars, others are making their big debut at the show. MTV News has rounded up some of the fashion community's finest to weigh in on what presenters Miley Cyrus and Kristen Stewart, as well as nominees Gabourey Sidibe and Anna Kendrick, should wear to the big show. And it's only a matter of time before we find out who'll make the best-dressed and worst-dressed lists.
Miley Cyrus, Presenter
Robert Verdi, celebrity stylist: "I think she dresses a little too mature for her age. Consistently she looks like she's taking things from her mother's closet. She always has a defined waistline and she wears all the right foundation garments, but the dress looks too serioso."
Kelly Cutrone of "Kell on Earth" and "The City": "We're saying black velvet, harsh smoky eye."
Richie Rich, designer, Heatherette: "I would love to see her in Chanel ... something haute couture. Sparkly and super-shiny and amazing and not what'd you expect for her to wear."
Anna Kendrick, Best Supporting Actress Nominee
Verdi: "She'll end up in something long. Hopefully it won't be one-shouldered; new fresher silhouette. She tends to like things that have a lot of beautiful detail."
Cutrone: "An emerald green would be quite nice on her ... or plum."
Rich: "I think Anna has great style ... she should keep that feeling to her."
Kristen Stewart, Presenter
Verdi: "She's a lot of legs, so I'd like to see her in short."
Cutrone: "I think she would look great in champagne, like an ivory eggshell champagne. She'd also be very pretty in black. It's clear she doesn't really want to do too much, so minimalism is much better."
Rich: "I think she has that punk edge, but at the same time an all-American, sort of girl-next-door look, and she can get away with more of a risk. Like punky and fun and something that's full of feathers and rhinestones."
Gabourey Sidibe, Best Actress Nominee
Verdi: "I would like to see her in a long gown. She's a big girl, but she's a curvy girl. And I actually want to see her in something that isn't 'mother of the bride.' "
Cutrone: "I'd like to see her in a very tight-fitted bodice with a big, caftan arm ... a really beautiful sheath with some nice chiffon, her arms covered up a little bit so that the focus can be on her nice midsection."
Rich: "I feel like Gabby should go for 'not trying too hard,' but at the same time not being scared of it. I think Gabby should follow the lead of showing her body off a little bit more and just feeling comfortable."

- 'American Idol' Castoff Haeley Vaughn Says Miley Cyrus Is An 'Icon'
'I'm a really big fan of Disney and Disney Channel, so hopefully there's something there that I can work on,' she says. By Katie Byrne
Haeley Vaughn
Photo: Fox
Haeley Vaughn's smile was infectious, but her uneven singing left the "American Idol" judges (and fans) frustrated.
After her shaky performance of Miley Cyrus' "The Climb," Vaughn was eliminated Thursday, along with Jermaine Sellers, John Park and Michelle Delamor. Will the 16-year-old's country/pop dreams still come true? We talked to the high-schooler from Fort Collins, Colorado, on Friday (March 5) to talk about that and more.
Q: What did you think when Kara suggested you take a year to strengthen your vocal skills?
A: I kind of agreed with her. I think that more experience and more time working on my vocals would be good. I think experience is always better, especially since I'm only 16 and this is the first big thing that I've done ever. I've never performed in front of millions of people before; I've never even performed in front of 100. I think it's always good to get more experience and work on the things that I need to work on.
Q: The contestants seem to be particularly nervous this year. Is the anxiety level really high?
A: The first week was really tough. We were all super nervous and scared and worried about our song choice. The first week, we were all just freaking out and trying to pick the right songs and make sure America would like them. Nerves are always gonna play a huge factor in what we do on the show.
Q: Why didn't you sing any country songs during your first two semifinal performances?
A: The songs I chose, I made them kind of pop/country. I wanted to not have to sing Martina McBride every week just because I wanted to be a country artist. When Carrie Underwood was on her season, she didn't sing only country songs. She was very versatile, and she chose songs of a different genre and she made them fit her country style. And that was my whole thing that I did too.
Q: Do you think the judges have been particularly rough this year?
A: Simon was definitely really harsh this season. But, I mean, he has reason to be. ... Sometimes he should soften the blow a little bit, but that's Simon Cowell. He's been like that for nine years.
Q: Are you going to go back to school or focus on your career?
A: I'm definitely gonna keep working on my career. I'm gonna keep singing. Hopefully, doors will open up for me. I'm a really big fan of Disney and Disney Channel, so hopefully there's something there that I can work on. I'm just gonna keep working on my career and doing what I love to do.
Q: What kind of career do you see yourself having?
A: Miley Cyrus is one of my icons. Oh my gosh, I love her.... Country music is definitely my genre, pop/country. And playing my guitar is awesome. Yeah, if I were given the chance to do that, I would definitely jump on it.
Q: Have you had a chance to talk to any "American Idol" alumni to get advice?
A: I talked to Allison [Iraheta] for a bit when she came and she performed the first week. And she just told me to stay true to who I am and keep doing my thing and keep doing one genre of music and just be really strong and confident.
Were you sad to see Haeley go? Do you think she should have performed some more country songs? Let us know below!

- Who Are Kristen Stewart And Miley Cyrus Taking To The Oscars?

We've already given them some sound fashion advice, but now we want to know who the Oscar attendees will be bringing with them to the show on Sunday. With a number of the presenters and nominees opting to bring mom to the Academy Awards, it could be quite the family affair.
While "Precious" star Gabourey Sidibe really wanted to get Justin Timberlake and "The Hurt Locker" actor Anthony Mackie "fight it out for the honor" of being her date, the actress confirmed to People that she will be accompanied by her mom.
In fact, it seems a number of the ladies will have mom by their side on the red carpet. "Up in the Air" star Anna Kendrick will arrive at the show with her mom and brother in tow. "I'm flying them out. I'm so excited," Kendrick revealed to E! News. "My mom wants to meet George Clooney."
Miley Cyrus, who is presenting at the show, tends to bring her mom to big events with her, so it's no surprise she's leaving beau and "The Last Song" co-star Liam Hemsworth at home. "Liam's a pretty low-key guy anyway," a source close to the couple told E!. "He doesn't mind not going."
Maggie Gyllenhaal, up for Best Supporting Actress for her role in "Crazy Heart," will also be with mom. The actress told Showbiz411, "I'm looking forward to doing the whole thing, all the parties. I know it's crazy, but why not? I'm hoping I can bring my mom, too, to the Governors Ball."
With both Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner presenting at the show, it seems like the "Twilight" stars would make perfect built-in dates for each other. "Yeah, I'm going," Stewart said. "Me and Taylor are going to present."
"The Bounty Hunter" star Gerard Butler, who will also be presenting, isn't bringing a date — on purpose. "I'm not taking a date unless I have a serious girlfriend, which probably a lot of people know is very rare," Butler told "Extra." "There are enough rumors about what's going on in my life without sparking another one."

- Bret Michaels Defends Miley Cyrus' Part In 'Nothin' To Lose'
'It has no reference to her and [me]. It's not even a duet,' Poison frontman says of provocative collaboration. By Jocelyn Vena

We already knew that Miley Cyrus and Bret Michaels were in a mutual fan club, but fans have been taken aback by the provocative nature of their collaboration "Nothin' to Lose," which hit the Internet on Thursday. The Poison frontman was quick to defend the ballad, in which the rocker and the teen queen sing about love and sex.
"We both know better than this/ Still we can't resist/ Slowly get undressed/ Won't you fall down on me/ So close I can feel you breathe," they sing in the chorus. But Michaels told UsMagazine.com that he didn't even take into account the suggestive lyrics when they laid down their vocals. "It's blown out of proportion," he said, adding that he had gotten a number of texts about it. "I was like, 'What the f--- is going on?' Everyone's going nuts!"
The song, which he said he wrote and recorded years back without Cyrus, got the 17-year-old's attention while they were recording her cover of his tune "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" for her next album. Michaels said Cyrus' mother was with them in a New York recording studio when he played "Nothin' to Lose," which he says will appear on his album due out in June.
"[Miley's] like, 'This is an incredible song, it's beautiful. Maybe I could [add] some stuff to it, some harmonies.' I said, 'That'd be killer!' " he said. "She was excited that she didn't have to follow any rules. I never sat down and said, 'Look at the content. Look at the lyrical content.'
"The part where it says she slowly gets undressed, Miley says, 'Yeah, she does,' " Michaels continued. "It has no reference to her and [me]. It's not even a duet. As God is my witness, there is nothing I have to be defensive about. I'm a good dad. I just thought it was a beautiful song. "

- Miley Cyrus Discusses Her 'Edgy Role' In 'The Last Song'
'It's been a really good experience because it's kind of my breakout moment in a way,' singer/actress says. By Jocelyn Vena

Miley Cyrus will be at your local cinema in March as the star of the latest Nicholas Sparks movie, "The Last Song." When fans hit the theater to check out the star's new flick, Cyrus promises that the role of Ronnie, a rebellious teen who spends a summer with her dad (Greg Kinnear) and finds love (Liam Hemsworth), will prove that she's ready to grow up and leave her "Hannah Montana" image behind.
"It's been really great," the 17-year-old star said in a new featurette. "It's been a really good experience because it's kind of my breakout moment in a way. This is more of an edgy role."
The role not only forced Cyrus to really flex her acting muscles, but it also spoke to her on a more personal level. "I think it's really important to look for roles that are challenging," she said. "But also something that you relate to and something that really captures your heart."
Although Cyrus, who just premiered the music video for her song "When I Look at You," has one season left on her hit TV show, she has expressed a desire to break free of her Disney princess status for a while now — although she understands her fans might not follow her lead.
"Everything is so dramatic in the world," she said. "My job is to be a role model and that's what I want to do, but my job isn't to be a parent. My job isn't to tell your kids how to act or how not to act, because I'm still figuring that out for myself. So to take that away from me is a bit selfish. Your kids are going to make mistakes whether I do or not. That's just life."

- Miley Cyrus And Liam Hemsworth Get Romantic In 'When I Look At You' Video
Track is from the real-life couple's upcoming movie, 'The Last Song.' By Jocelyn Vena
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth in her "When I Look At You" video
Photo: Hollywood Records
Miley Cyrus is a girl with a piano, a song and a hunky co-star in her new music video for "When I Look at You." The track is Cyrus' single from her film, "The Last Song," set for release in March. And director Adam Shankman, who produced the flick, managed to capture the feeling of the film's romance in the clip.
The ballad's video opens with a shot of a piano on a pier and from there we see a close-up of Cyrus, Hemsworth's feet and then back to the piano. Soon Cyrus is playing the piano and continues to do so for most of the video. In fact, when she isn't sharing longing looks or locking lips with Hemsworth, she's at the piano, playing it in the woods, at the beach and in her front yard.
There are shots of Cyrus singing about her dream boy in the woods and in fields of wheat. Her scenes with Hemsworth are incredibly relaxed and natural, no doubt due to the fact that the pair are a real-life couple. Although the video's only overt reference to "The Last Song" is the romance between Cyrus and Hemsworth, it's pretty clear by the locale and the aforementioned storyline that this is meant to get Cyrus' fans excited for the film's release.
Cyrus is definitely growing up, something she's wanted to prove to the world for a while now. And although there's nothing particularly jarring in the clip, the vibe shows that Cyrus is most certainly ready to leave "Hannah Montana" behind.
